New for 2005-06 - Clarification of New Defensive Rule
The third grade boys & girls will be allowed to play zone defenses only in the last two minutes of the game when back-court presses are allowed except for the 15 point grace rule at which time we will revert back to the no zone defense rule. The fourth grade girls will be allowed to play zone defenses only in the fourth quarter of the game when back-court presses are allowed except for the 15 point grace rule at which time we will revert back to the no zone defense rule.
No zone traps are allowed on defense, no isolation offenses allowed. When the offensive player comes into contact with the three point arc, then a single defensive player must align themselves with that offensive player and not to exceed, knowingly, a maximum of five feet in distance. Defenders should follow cutters through the lane and not stand and guard an area. EXCEPTION: If an opposing player has beaten their player and has an uncontested advantage towards the goal, then a help side defender may adjust their defensive scheme to help, but once the original defender recovers and is able to solidify themselves on the offensive player, then the helper on defense must return to his player, thus no double teaming.
PENALTY: - First infraction - Warning to be marked in scorer’s book for remainder of game
Second infraction - Two shot technical foul and ball out at half-court for offensive team
Third, Fourth, etc. Infractions will result in the same action as Second
TECHNICAL FOULS ON THIS RULE WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE BENCH AND WILL NOT GO AGAINST THE COACH.
Teams will use 9 foot baskets (overhangs permitted.) If overhangs are used, the free throw line remains as painted on the floor; if the baskets are the "crank-down" variety, then the free throw line will be moved forward 18 inches. Playing man defense is highly encouraged; playing zone defense is discouraged. In the first three quarters there will be no guarding in the backcourt. (However, only one free passage into the back court per possession; that is, after a team uses its free passage into the back court and the ball is tipped out of bounds in the front court by the opposing team, then a pass inbound from the sideline at midcourt and thrown into the back court can now be intercepted by the opposing team.) In the 4TH quarter there will be no back court restrictions (regular basketball) except if a team is 15 or more points ahead, that team cannot full-court press. Failure to comply with this NO-PRESS rule will cause a warning to be issued on the first and second occurrence, and thereafter a technical foul will be assessed against the team.
Must play Man-to Man defense no half court traps will be permitted. When the offensive team comes across half court each defensive player must guard an opposing player. Once an offensive player has beaten the defensive player, help side defenders can step in and help. If a defender leaves his/her man to double team he/she must recover back to their man and not guard an area. Defenders should follow cutters through the lane and not stand and guard an area. The penalty for not following this rule will be one warning followed by technical fouls for each additional offense. The technicals will be accessed to the bench and not to the head coach. The technical fouls will be two free throws and possession of the ball at half court. In the 4TH quarter only there will be no back court or Man-to Man defense restrictions.
Teams will use 10 foot baskets. Playing zone defense exclusively is discouraged. In the first half there will be no guarding in the backcourt. (However, onlv one free passage into the back court per possession; that is, after a team uses its free passage into the back court and a ball is tipped out of bounds in the front court by the opposing team, then a pass inbound from the sideline at midcourt and thrown into the back court can now be intercepted by the opposing team.) In the second half there will be no back court restrictions (regular basketball) except if a team is 15 or more points ahead, that team cannot full-court press. Failure to comply with this NO-PRESS rule will cause a warning to be issued on the first and second occurrence, and thereafter a technical foul will be assessed against the team.

If a coach is assessed two technical fouls in a game, he is not only ejected from the game in progress, but the league will automatically suspend the coach for his next game. A repeat occurrence by the same coach will carry the same penalty and may carry an additional penalty levied by the league officers.
Technical fouls against coaches, players, and fans must be reported to the appropriate Grade Commissioner bv the opposing team's head coach. Technical fouls must be reported.
